Funquest Wesbrook. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

Woodside Victoria. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

Her sire, although bred in Washington, was of all California breeding.
Her dam was sired by the Brunk bred, Red Vermont.
Her maternal grand dam was Laydee, who has some wonderful early California history behind her. Laydee  was bred by Duval Williams, Chowilla, CA. He was an important very early California.breeder. Laydee's sire, Cuyamo, was also bred by Williams. From the AllBreed site (which I wrote many years back)--

Color: br
Height: 15.1

AMHA #7974

Brown, strip, lh pastern white, 1175 lbs. Foaled 8/1/1931, Madera, CA. Bred by Duval Williams. Advertised in Western Livestock Journal in the 1930s. He would be taken to the mares home for breeding. Has few Morgan descendants but likely had many part Morgan and Grade Morgans to his credit in the San Joaquin Valley. Registered Morgan progeny: 4 colts, 7 fillies.

Cuyamo's sire was bred by Richard Sellman. His dam was one of Roland Hill's very early breedings; her sire was the Brunk, Pat Allen, and her dam was a Sellman mare.
Laydee's dam was Lady, bred by Duval Williams and sired by Bender, a Roland Hill bred sired by Pat Allen and out of a Sellman mare. Lady's dam was listed simply as the J B Haggins Mare She was foaled in 1910 and was bred by James Ben Ali Haggins, a noted land owner in the Central Valley and rancher of note who also bred horses. Look at this mare's pedigree-- https://beta.allbreedpedigree.com/j-b-haggins-mare-6MekSmxG/pedigree She was basically a Morgan.
Lady was our only link to the very first Morgans that came to California in the 1800's.
Lady had only 2 foals that came into the latter 20th century; they were Dulcet and Laydee.
Laydee did have some foals that bred on, including the dam of WOODSIDE VICTORIA, who had 6 foals. Victoria was dam of Peggy Dawson and Sylvia Dawson. Only Sylvia had further foals and then the line was gone.
I am sad to say that I do not believe that any line from Laydee has made it into this century, thus we have lost that link to history.

Below is a photo of Cuyamo.  This was an ad in an old Western Livestock Journal.

Hartland Morgans. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

Townshend Vigilass. Townshend Morgan Farm Pamphlet

Her sire was 1/2 Lippitt. Her dam was 3/4 Lippitt. Except for that Gov't sire line, the rest of the pedigree was Old Vermont High Percent.
She apparently had no foals.

Townshend Vigildawn. Townshend Morgan Farm Pamphlet

This is a great photo. Way back in the day, the English Pleasure class also required that the horse show it can jump a low jump. And the rider was using the standard flat Saddleseat saddle, not a jumping saddle.
Her dam was mostly Brunk breeding but also had a line to Gov't and a line to Old Midwest Family.
She had some foals.
The photo below is from the AllBreed site and shows the versatility of this lovely mare.

Townshend Vigilissa. Townshend Morgan Farm Pamphlet

Her dam was bred by the University of Massachusetts (their prefix was Bay State) using stock from the Gov't Farm.
Her sire was Lippitt and Old Vermont with a Gov't sire line.
She has no foals listed on the AllBreed site. But my own Registery Volume records show at least one foal.

Townshend Vigiljoan. Townshend Morgan Farm Pamphlet

Her pedigree was 15/16th Lippitt and Old Vermont. Only her sire line went to Gov't.
She had a few foals.

Black River Dandy. AMHA 1970 Calendar.

That red box is just about impossible to read. So here it is--"Not often does a 3 year old stallion become a National Champion--not often does he travel across 4 states to win that honor. But Black River Dandy 16807 (Fleetwing - Lovely Melody) took the 1969 Eastern National by storm and Tom Rubles of Black River Morgans Farm in Lodi, Ohio is justifiably proud at this fine young stallion."
He sired 22 get, mostly for Black River Morgans.
His get include:
--Black River Domino, sire of many, mostly for Ken-Mar
--Black River Jupitor, sire of 16.
--Black River Leo, sire of many, including Essex Against All Odds, sire of Play The Odds who is currently siring for BAMF prefix.
--Ken Mar Hollywood Hi, dam for Ken Mar.
--many others of his get bred on to one extent or another.

Ember Serene. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

Serene was the love of David's life. She had 3 foals for us.

Funquest Kibeau. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

This mare had a highly unusual Funquest pedigree in that she has no Flyhawk and almost no Brunk.
Her sire was bred in Kansas and he was sired by the California bred Tehachapi Allan who was in the Remount Service in Kansas. The dam of her sire was also Kansas bred from Elmer Brown stock. Her dam and that mare's sire were more Kansas breds, with Elmer Brown stock and Tehachapi Allan back there. The maternal grand dam was yet another Kansas bred and her dam was another Elmer Brown mare. The maternal grand sire was the gray Morgan Sheik Star who was bred by TT Brunk from a Brunk mare and a gray, eastern lines stallion.
Kibeau had a pedigree of interest. She had at least one foal.

U. C. Pantana. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

Upper 2 from TMH
Lower from the AllBreed site
She had a great pedigree.
She had 5 foals, including:
--Welmore Zorro who was the epitome of a roadster Morgan. I was lucky to see him at shows around 1980 and always cheered him on. He sired 23 get, including Welmore Satin Doll whom I owned for a few years. Like her sire, she had a big trot and we had some great trail rides. One of Zorro's get was Teton Zorro who had 17 get, mostly for Tetonia/Teton.
--Willow Glen Panfire, chosen by Sid Spencer of central Calif. to sire her next generation of working ranch horses. He had 13 get.
--Willow Glen Ro-Ann and Willow Glen Roc-Tani both had a foal or more.
--Willow Glen Sir Pan sired 28 get. One of these was Gold Pan dam of Gold Cintilation (dam for Whippoorwill) and Gold Cinnabar who sired some for Whippoorwill. Sir Pan also sired for the Mt. View prefix.

Memorable Morgan Dates. 1970 AMHA Calendar

This is the inside of the front cover of the calendar.
It had to be scanned in 2 parts.
Thanks to Barb Collins for saving this over the decades and then sending to me.

Windcrest Dona Lee. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

Her pedigree is Gov't  but with a nice dose of the Old Vermont lines from that very good producing mare, Quietude. Also, the Gov't Farm used Carolyn, who appears on the bottom mare line, and she also was from the Old Vermont lines. (There is a photo of her on the AllBreed site if you click on her name in the pedigree of Dona Lee and then click the photo icon.)
Dona Lee had 7 foals. They are:
--Applevale Don Lee who had a show career.
--Applevale Donalect who sired many for Applevale, Saddleback, and many others.
--Applevale Red Fox who sired 87 get in California mostly for Triton Morgans but also for others.
--Aquarian Mary Lee who produced many for Saddleback.
--Gallant Lee who sired many for his owners' Arduns prefix and for many others.
--Saddleback Sealect, sire of 117 get for many different breeders.
--Saddleback Specialee, dam.
There are many lines down to today from Dona Lee.

Green Mt. Song Bird. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

This 1964 mare, bred by Esther Bird (who always put Bird into her horses' names), was of the classic New England breeding of the time--Lippitt, Old Vermont, Gov't.
She had foals for Al-Bar and Townshend.
They include--Al Bar Autumn Song, sire for Highover and others. (on the AllBreed site, he is listed 3 times with 3 different spellings of his name. sigh)
--Al-Bars Attitude, sire.
--Albars Donna Song, dam.
--Townshend Cindon (also on AllBreed twice due to misspelling of his name), sire for Woodgate, Atakapa, and others.
--Townshend Don Bird, sire for various breeders.

Headline's Gloriana. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

This is her correct registered name.
However, once again, someone got careless and sloppy and entered her without the 's after the prefix. https://beta.allbreedpedigree.com/headline-gloriana-vrVum8vX/pedigree
This entry lists her having 2 foals.
Her dam, Cathy Serenity, bred by Frances Bryant, was dam of some good ones, including Katy Bennfield, dam of Courage of Equinox who also was sired by Chasley Superman.

Bald Mt. Ebony Knight. The Morgan Horse Magazine. May 1984

He was sired by that wonderful Morgan, Easter Twilight. Easter was sired by a full Lippitt, and was out of Conniedale, a very noted producer who was sired by a full Lippitt. The dam of Conniedale was another noted producer, Annadale, who was sired by Monterey and out of yet another great producing mare, the Brunk bred Florette who was also dam of Flyhawk.
The dam of Ebony Knight, Tinkerbell, was sired by Sealect, who was one of the Lippitt Foundation sires. The dam of Tinkerbelle was Friendly, who was a double Bennington granddaughter, bred by the US Gov't Farm. Friendly won the Lightweight Division of the Vermont 100 Mile Ride in 1942 & 1943.
