Over my decades in the Morgan world I have heard this horse referred to as Gov't breeding. I disagree with that. Yes, his sire line is Gov't. His sire, Ulendon, was bred by W. Lyman Orcutt. The sire of Ulendon, Ulysses, was indeed bred by the Gov't Farm and was by Bennington. But the dam of Ulysses was that great Old Vermont High Percent mare, Artemisia, whose pedigree reads like those of the Lippitts. The dam of Ulendon, Allenda, was another Orcutt bred mare and her pedigree was the Old Vermont High Percent horses.
The dam of Orcland Vigildon was a Lippitt.
Behind Orcland Vigildon were generations of breedings by the Orcutt family and other breeders from the same area of Vermont, using the very ancient Justin Morgan intense line Morgans.
Orcland Vigildon had 106 get and left a lasting legacy in the Morgan world. He had ever so many get that were noted progenitors in their own right. He was a major factor in this breed.
