Circle H Caballero. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept. 1980

Check out his pedigree on the above link.
His sire was the very good working stallion and sire, Condo. (Click on his name on the pedigree and then look at the photo there.) Condo was Brunk with some darn good Brunk horses behind him.
Circle H was the prefix used by the Hunnewill Ranch of far east California and west Nevada. They bred Morgans for their ranch work. Caballero's dam was also Circle H. Her pedigree goes to the Elmer Brown bred Sparbeau; the rest of her pedigree is Roland Hill.
I love this story. lt reminds me of something I was told when I first got into Morgans--a Morgan never sees the end of the trail, always ready to keep going.

Kane's High Society. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

Sire of 62 get, many for the Whitmorr prefix.
His sire, Quizkid, sired 86 get and was very influential in the upper Midwest; many of his get had the Springbrook prefix as well as siring for Kane's, Max, and many others.
The dam of Kane's High Society was a L U Sheep Co. WY mare. Her dam was by the Brunk bred Flying Jubilee (of Ern Pedlar fame) and her bottom lines were more LU Sheep. This stallion was her only produce of note.
Kane's High Society can be found in today's pedigrees.

San De Super Chief. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

I got to see him in person. He was a very nice horse. Sadly, none of his get bred on very far.
His pedigree was Lippitt and Old Vermont on top and California, including Waer's, on the bottom.

Greentree Bonniejohn. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

This pedigree brings together Eastern, MidWest, and Western bloodlines.
His sire was bred by the well known and long standing breeders of the Old Vermont Morgans, the Orcutt family. Orcland John Darling was 7/8 Lippitt and Old Vermont.
Bonniejohn's dam was bred by that good Wyoming breeder, Ramul Dvarishkis. Her sire was the prolific, Brunk bred, Stetson.
The dam of Bonita Graham was the Wyoming ranch bred mare, Antlers Bonnie. Bonnie's sire was Antlers Black Hawk and was bred by the L U Sheep Co. of WY. Black Hawk's sire was the very good sire of ranch Morgans and later when he went to the midwest, show Morgans, Senator Graham.
Black Hawk's dam, Fantan, was another LU Sheep Co horse and was sired by the good Elmer Brown stallion, Plains King.
Fantan's dam was another LU Sheep Co horse, and was sired by Flyhawk. The dam of this mare was Duchess, again LU Sheep, and was by the Elmer Brown bred Linspar, thus bringing another cross to the great Linsley to go with the Linsley behind Romanesque's dam. The dam of Duchess goes back to a son of the great racing Standardbred, Dan Patch. It is worth a look at Dan Patch's pedigree to see all the Morgan behind him, including a son of Justin Morgan, Revenge.
Bonniejohn's show record and sire record speaks for itself, but behind him are long lines of good using and breeding horses.

Funquest Messenger. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

This good gelding shows the classic method of inbreeding--breeding the daughter of a good stallion to the grandson of the same good stallion.
He has a total of four crosses to Flyhawk.
The California connection comes from
bred by Roland Hill, Calif.
Elberty Linsley and Maggy Linsley were bred by Elmer Brown, Kansas; Brown has contributed much that is good in today's Morgans.
Chief Red Hawk, although not carrying the Funquest prefix, was bred by Stuart Hazard.

Saddleback Sultan. Australia's First Morgan Horse Farm. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept. 1980

A nicely bred stallion of Lippitt and Old Vermont and Government lines.
His sire, Orcland Dondarling, was 7/8 Lippitt and Old Vermont High Percent lines. His dam was the lovely Lippitt mare, Anna Darling. Allenda, the dam of Ulendon who was the sire of Dondarling, was not a Lippitt but was of the same old lines as what made the Lippitts. The same is for the dam of Ulysses, Artemisia, who was definitely one of the High Percent Old Vermont mares.
Ulysses appears again behind the dam of Sultan. And those Old Vermont lines appear again behind the dam of Seneca Lady Esther whose sire was the Lippitt Cornwallis.
Brown Pepper, sire of Sultan's dam, was a noted show horse and sire. His sire was the famous Upwey Ben Don. Note that Ben Don's dam was the excellent producing mare Quietude, who was sired by the very good Troubadour of Willowmoor, and out of a mare who while not a Lippitt was of the same lines as behind the Lippitts. Audrey, the dam of Upwey King Benn, was also of the good Old Vermont lines. The Government program owed much to those mares of the High Percent Old Vermont lines.
Donene Pepper, dam of Sultan, was out of Trouvaille, who was sired by the great Gov't bred Trophy who sired many good breeding and show horses. Trouvaille was out of Gwen-S who was by Ulysses. Her dam was Golden Flash by the Lippitt Vigilant and out of a Saddlebred mare, Ladelle, who was often used by the Orcutts. Looking back up the pedigree, behind Seneca Lady Esther, there is a listing of "F H Orcutt Mare" as a Saddlebred. Likely that was also Ladelle.
Sultan had a heritage of strong breeding horses, both stallions and mares.

Funquest Reino. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

Was later gelded.
This is one excellent Morgan horse!

Whippoorwill Carol. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

Her sire was the very good Whippoorwill Duke.
Her dam, carrying the Broadway prefix, was bred in Kansas by the Theis Bros. She traveled from Kansas to Rhode Island in utero in the shipment of horses Cecil Ferguson purchased from the Theis Bros. Many very good Morgans came from that.
Whippoorwill Carol had 12 foals.
One was Rocking M Vaquero, who among others, sired for the Rocking M prefix in Canada, and Roy Foote's Treasure prefix in Montana.
Carol had some foals for Joanne Curtis' Sereno/Serena prefix.
She also had foals for Whippoorwill Morgans.

Triton Temesia. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

A pedigree of mostly Gov't with some Lippitt and Old Vermont also.
She is behind some AMF prefix Morgans and some Winter Moon prefix Morgans.

KT Darling. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

Her sire was the very good Lippitt, Royalton Ashbrook Darling. Her dam was by a Gov't bred stallion and out of a mare bred by Frances Bryant who had a bottom mare line of Lippitt. There is a good photo of her at the above link.

Merriehill Lovestory. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Sept 1980

The nice mare did not breed on.
However, her sire had 101 registered get, many of whom were and still are well-known.

Her dam moved on to Nancy Nard's Ragtime Morgans where I was fortunate to see her. Hylee's Carbon Copy was a lovely, correct Morgan mare who did breed on with descendants down to today.
Her daughter, Ragtime Abracadabra, produced for Raynday Farm.
Ragtime Copycat produced for Ragtime and NVS farms.
Her grandson, Ragtime Catman Blu, sired for RG Morgans in Nebraska.
Others of her produce also bred on to some extent.
A pedigree of pure, old time Brunk.

Hawks Nest Tradition. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Nov 2001

Joanne Curtis' breeding (the dam).
Whippoorwill on top.
Had only one colt who was gelded.
But he had a very good competition career.
More about that on the info icon on the above link.

Vintage Bouquet. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Nov 2001

What a wonderful pedigree of old California breeding with line-breeding to Ramona Brave and Farceur Morgan, both proven sires with lines to today.
Belle McClure, dam of Otto McClure, was bred by E W Roberts of San Diego Co., but her parents were both from Elmer Brown's of Kansas, and both had Linsley behind them.
The dam of Farceur Morgan was bred by Clark Ringling of Nevada, a true old time working ranch owner in a remote place.
There is so much more I could say about this pedigree, but go to the above link and cruise through the pedigree and see how it was done, back in the day.

Statesman's Silhouette. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Nov 2001

Sire of many.
Came from the famed Statesman's program, sired by the very good Chief of State by the wonderful The Statesman. Both of The Statesman's parents were 1/2 Lippitts.
Fleur-de-Lis, dam of Chief of State, had Government (OCR & Townshend Gaymeade), Western Working Family (Duke BK, bred by LU Sheep Co, WY), Brunk (Flyhawk, grandsire of Gayla), and some lines back to the seldom seen Golddust Morgans, back behind Gayla and her maternal  great grand dam, Alleen C.
Meadowrock Melanie, dam of Statesmans Silhouette, brings another cross to the LU Sheep Co horses in her maternal grand dam, Belmuir. Melanie's maternal grandsire was bred in Kansas by the working ranch, Theis Co., and had Gov't on top and older Kansas lines in the dam. The sire of Melanie had a Gov't line dam. He then had a sire with some interesting Old Vermont lines. Be sure to trace those back.

This was a pedigree of generations of using Morgans.

Blythewood Vermont Legend. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Nov. 2001

He sired a few but I do not think anything bred on.
His sire was out of a Lippitt mare that I saw many times here in California after she moved here. She was a solid, deep mare. Damon Ashmore, the paternal grandsire of Legend, was bred by Francis Bryant of her tried-and-true stock. Damon was a full brother to Dolly Ashmore who was the dam of my Clarion of Quietude. These were all darn good Morgans.
Then we have Dunham Lucky Legend, dam of Vermont Legend. Lucky came to California to live with me after being with Kathy in NJ. She was a lovely mare, deep-bodied, solid, correct. And to my great dismay, she died of a uterine artery rupture giving birth to her colt here. That broke my heart.
Lucky's sire was from Eve Oakley's Caven-Glo Morgans and was the result of Eve breeding her two great foundation horses to each other. Lucky's dam was double Easter Vermont, being inbred to that great son of Red Vermont. Lucky had an awesome pedigree and was an awesome special mare.

Iron Forge Starman. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Nov. 2001

A pedigree based on many of the Morgan families.
Brunk--Beamington (who also had WWF behind his dam), behind Don Again of Hanover there is Jubilee King and Florette, that good sire of trotting speed and good form Mickey Finn who appears twice, Red Vermont, that wonderful producing mare Paragraph who is behind Parade, and the mare Dagmar on the very bottom line.
Lippitt--Cornwallis sire of Parade, the beautiful Lippitt Ethan Georgia, Lippitt Wally Moro dam of Orlando Wallette, behind Don Again of Hanover we have Lippitt Croydon Ethan and John A. Darling.
Old Vermont--Gertie G behind Miller's Adel, Gladwin behind Don Again of Hanover, behind Quietude there is her dam Ruth and Fanny 2nd behind her sire, and other mare lines behind the Gov't horses.
Western Working Family--behind the dam of Beamington, the sire of Waseeka's Nocturne was a L U Sheep Co of WY bred stallion, Echo's April Dawn, Bonanya.
Government--everything else!
He sired a bunch.
There is more info on his competition career and a good photo on the above link.

Mythic Aladdin. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Nov. 2001

A mostly Gov't pedigree with some Lippitt, Western Working Family (coming from the old Kansas breeders), and a touch of Brunk (behind Parade's dam).
There is a photo of him under saddle at above link.
Sired some nice ones.
