The Western Working Family Morgans. TMH. Feb. 1987

Well, here it is,  the 1987 article that described and named a family of the breed. Within very few months, the term Western Working Family was appearing and being used all by many and really caught on. Apparently, there had been a need for this.

Red Vermont sons. Western Livestock Journal. 1943

Jubilee Vermont x-8336 was foaled 1940, bred by Grace B. Woods of New Hampshire at that time. He was owned by Mrs. Kathleen Daley of California who then bred his 1941 full brother, Jubilee Gold x-8430.
Both were sired by Red Vermont, who later came to California from the east.
Both were out of Ramona B. (unreg), a 1935 mare, owned by Kathleen Daley and before that, by Grace Brunk Woods.

Ramona B. was sired by Stonewall King, a registered Saddlebred. The dam of Ramona B. was Golden Girl (unreg) by Golden Eagle Denmark, a registered Saddlebred.
The dam of Golden Girl was Columbia Girl 0444, a registered Morgan, sired by Charles Reade 3953, and out of Maud by Rattler Morgan 5962.
Neither of these Red Vermont sons had any registered Morgan get.

Lippitt Pecos. TMH. Feb 1987

I was fortunate to see L. Pecos in the early '80's. Even as an aged stallion, he was magnificent. I regret that I did not have enough sense to get one of his daughters.

Royal-Glo. TMH. Feb 1987

This was from the Greener Pastures section in Feb. 1987's The Morgan Horse Magazine.
Royal-Glo was sired by Emerald's Aristocrat. He was owned by the author of good training books and articles, Richard Young. He was of nearly pure Old Midwest Family, having only one cross to WWF in the 4th generation. He had two lines to Rhythm Lovely Lady who has been identified as the most likely source of the Splash gene that came down to Marvelous Intrigue who was out of Marvelous Legacy, by Marvelous Gem, out of Royal-Glo. Intrigue was a typey, handsome, correct Morgan in every sense. He has sired a large number of very good Morgans who are breeding on and proving themselves in various venues.
Royal-Glo's dam was Caven-Glo Saguaro, bred by that good horsewoman, Eve Oakley. Saguaro was by Eve's foundation sire, Cavendish, and out of the L U Sheep Co. of WY mare, La Reina.

Red Oak. TMH. Feb 1987

Sired by General Gates, he avoided any problems that could come from Bennington. His dam was other good Vermont blood.
He went to Richard Sellman's ranch where he sired many very good working Morgans with many who bred on to today.
