Glenmere Rose.

Bred by Richard Keating, Mass. in June 1957, she was transferred to Robert Knight. She remained there until the 1962 Knight Dispersal Sale after Knight's death. At that auction, she sold for $1900 to Eve Oakley, Caven Glo Morgans, of California.
She had eight foals, two of them carried Knight's Lippitt prefix, four carried Eve's Caven-Glo prefix, and two had the Fairoak prefix.
Her two Lippitt prefix daughters were Justarose and Rosemere. Justarose and Rosemere both  also went through Knight's Dispersal Sale and will be the subject of future articles.

Glenmere Rose was in foal when she sold through the auction. That foal was Caven-Glo Lisa, full Lippitt.
Lisa was dam of:
--Caven-Glo Laurien (1/2), 1967 gelding
--Caven-Glo Rose Marie (1/2), 1969, she had some foals, but nothing bred on. I saw her in person and she was a big, striking mare who was correct and deep and had a correct, big trot.
--Ember Ethan (Full), 1970, sired by Moro Hill Gay Ethan. Ethan was sweet tempered and correct. He did sire some, but nothing bred on.
--Ember Medallion (Full), 1971, sired by Moro Hill Medallion. Dally was a somewhat tough horse, but basically amenable. He sired a few, with nothing going onwards.
--Ember Ethan Dandy (Full), 1972, sired by Moro Hill Medallion. He was outshined by his full brother and had very few get.
--Ember Gay Ethanette (Full), 1974. by Moro Hill Gay Ethan. She was dam of Ember Emily (Full) by Moro Hills Micah. Emily was then dam of Z Halcyon Starbright (Full) by Ute Mt. Papadia. "Starbie" went on to have foals which are alive today. The only one in a breeding program is TOV Miss Legacy, owned by Becca Tyson, Tyson Morgan Ranch. She is in foal for a 2023 foal.
--Ember Lisette (Full), 1985 by Moro Hills Micah. She was quite the colorful and had some foals. Only TOV Alexander (Full), by Quietude Westward,  bred on and while there are descendants alive today, none appear to be in a breeding program.

The next foal of Glenmere Rose was the 1965 colt, Caven-Glo Ashwin (1/2) who sired some with nothing going onwards. In 1966, Glenmere Rose had another gelding, Caven-Glo Ethan Sail (1/2).
Then, in 1967, Glenmere Rose had Caven-Glo Courier (1/2), a gelding who competed very successfully in the Southern California show circuit, both Morgan and Open shows. He was also on the cover of Margaret Cabel Self's book, The Show Horse. There is a nice photo of him here--
In 1969, she had a gelding, Fairoak Courage (1/2). In 1973, she had Fairoak Misty Rose (1/2).

It is sad to see how few of Rose's descendants come to today. They were good horses but many did not belong to breeders and of those who did, their progeny usually went to happy pleasure owners. Of the ones known to me personally, they were darn good horses that any Morgan owner could be proud of.

Dam of 6 registered foals. Info at this link and another photo.
She was dam of Gay Vaquero, Panzarita Ro, Serenita Ro, and Tia Margarita. All four of her foals bred onwards with 3 of them coming to today in some strong lines.

Dam of 11 registered foals.
Her son, Vaquero Mac, brings her most strongly to today.
Her daughter, Tia Isabella, had foals for Roy Foote's Treasure Morgans.
Some of the others bred on to one extent or another.

{a side note--There was some very wrong info on one of these mares, wrong breeder & wrong birth location. I knew it was wrong, checked in the registry volume, and fixed it. The point of this is to not  believe everything you see on AllBreed. If you see something you suspect is wonky, ask someone who can verify. And if you are entering a pedigree or info, check it over, then double check, then triple check. }

--Doe Run Marvelouslee (1/2 Lippitt) who produced for Devine Morgans. Her daughter, Devine Catalina, also produced for Devine Morgans.

Mariner is behind quite a few pedigrees of today, both Full Lippitts, part Lippitts, and simply a Lippitt cross back there in the pedigree.

Marvelous Morgans. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Feb 1988

Lippitt Alertson.

Photos from The Morgan Horse Magazine, 1960's, courtesy of Heather Emmons Smith.

Chestnut stallion, foaled 1961, bred by Robert Lippitt Knight.
L. Alertson was one of those who went through the Dispersal Sale after Knight's death in 1962. He was sold to Roy S. Richardson, Jr. of Vermont for $900, and then had two registered get, Morgan Legend's Jubal (1/2 Lippitt) and Sumac's Jess (1/2 Lippitt), both out of Green Meads Dawn. Jubal, who was foaled in 1966, was gelded. Jess, foaled in 1967, had four registered get.
Since Alertson was being shown by a junior rider in the above photos, he must have been gelded.

[from this point, onwards, we are speaking of 1/2 Lippitts, part-Lippitts or barely Lippitts, but it is still interesting to see how the line continued on for a while]

The get of Sumac's Jess were:
--Moro's Alert-Son, foaled 1969, bred by Jean Cox DeBeck of Maine. He was gelded.

--Moro's Jessie James, foaled 1971, bred by Norma Rubin of Maine. He was gelded. The dam of Jessie James was by the Lippitt, Moro Twilight, thus bringing some Lippitt blood back to the L. Alertson lines.

--Moro's Contessia, foaled 1971, bred by Jean Cox DeBeck of Maine. The dam of Contessia was sired by the Lippitt stallion, Nabob's Morgan.  Contessia was dam of: J Wakan Sir Archer, 1975, foaled in Maine, gelded; Moonglo Elegant Duke, 1977, foaled in Maine, gelded. Both he and J Wakan Archer were bred by Judith Emerson; Tuppins of Birchwood, 1982, bred and foaled in New Hampsire. He had a foal in 1986; Mason Expo, 1985, and Mason Tempest, 1984, both bred and foaled in Colorado and both gelded. It looks like Contessia was often sold and moved around.

--Moro's Jessicia, foaled 1970, bred by Moro's Stock Farm (Jean Cox DeBeck) of Maine. Jessicia had 4  registered foals, two for Ro-Pa's prefix, Holly (1/2) and Jessie Jane (1/2). Both were bred by Roger Laney of Maine and both were sired by the Lippitt stallion, Moro Twilight. Neither had registered foals. Jessicia also had two geldings--Royal Tam, 1981, bred in Maine, and Tamworth Prince, bred in Mass. It would appear that Jessicia was sold in foal to Mass. and later had another foal for that person.

--Stone Acre Justin Jr., out of an Appaloosa mare. Justin Jr. sired at least two Appaloosas.

All this information is now on the AllBreed Pedigree site.

UVM Dexter. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Feb. 1988

--UVM Kaleidoscope, dam for Edelhof's prefix.
--Taproot Twin Flower, dam for Taproot.
--Taproot Sweet Flag, dam for Taproot and Kennebec.
--Taproot Starflower, dam for Taproot.

Ro Mac
There is a good conformation photo at this link.
He has a lot of good things and a few not so much.
By pedigree, he is 7/8th Government and 1/8th Sellman.
But he is Western Working Family by the fact that he was bred to be a working ranch Morgan, and bred by a breeder who had a cattle ranch and used the Morgans.

Condo. The Morgan Horse Club of Northern California, Inc. 1966 Directory

He was inbred to the mare African Maid, being out of a daughter of that mare who was bred to a grandson of that mare.
Behind Condo's entire pedigree we see many crosses to the full brothers, Penrod and Allen King.
Going back further, there are many crosses to the mare Daisy.
Condo's dam has two crosses to that grand producing mare, Liza Jane, who founded her own dynasty.
Also appearing many times is the good sire, Knox Morgan.
The sire line is different, as Brunk used the Gov't stallion Tiffany. However, behind Tiffany, there are many crosses to Ethan Allen, some through Daniel Lambert and some General Gates. Ethan Allen is also found behind the Brunk bred Morgans.
The Old Vermont High Percent mares behind Tiffany go back to the same forebears as the Old Vermont High Percent mares behind the rest of the Brunk pedigree.
The Brunk family were masters at excellent close breeding.

Foaled in April of 1951, Condo was bred by the J C Brunk son, J R Brunk.
In April of 1953, he was sold to the Mosher Bros. of Utah.
They were breeding working ranch Morgans that needed to be stout enough to carry them and do a day's work.
There is a good working photo of Condo at the above link as well as further information.
Sept. 1, 1965, saw his transfer from the Mosher Bros. to Hunewill Ranch of eastern California and western Nevada.

Sire of 157 registered get in Utah, Colorado, and California.
He comes down to today through many lines.
He is still sought after today for his excellent breed type, laid-back shoulder with an excellent Pillar of Support and Neck Emergence, his good correct legs with plenty of bone, and his wonder long & correct hind quarters.

A much better photo at this link.
Pure Brunk breeding, he brought many attributes, including a lovely rear end.
Read the "info" icon also at this link.
This page is the last one listing the Circle H Morgans (took 3 pages of the Directory to get them all. 53 Morgans listed for them.)
The Circle H ranch used their Morgans for ranch work.
Today, wise breeders treasure this blood.

She had 10 foals, some of which bred onwards.
However, it appears that there is only one line to today, coming down to RTF Black Ice.
A nice head shot at above link.
She was bred by W. L. Linn of Turlock, CA, an important breeder of good Morgans.

Had 2 get before being gelded. One did breed on into this century, but then the line stopped.
He was shown as a hunter, on the flat and over fences.

She had foals, but none bred on very far.
There is a nice head shot at this link.
