Green Meads Farm bred some very good Morgans under Darwin Morse. They also advertised regularly in the magazine. Today, those original Green Meads Morgans can be found at the back of pedigrees.
Jeff Morse did a good job of advertising their stallion, Mad River Sailor, and continuing the breeding. Later, in the '90s, he got deeply involved in carriage driving, competing and training very well in that sport. He also was very involved on the internet, joining all the Morgan lists and groups. On one of those, he said something I recall to this day. I do not recall his exact words but the meaning was this--You can breed a mare to the same stallion 10 times and you will get one very excellent horse. You will get one that is at the bottom of the scale. The other 8 will be around the middle but will be good horses.
This is the pedigree of their foundation mare. Note that her sire was Western Working Family, from Kansas, bred by the Heibert Bros. using the Sellman bred Romanesque who stood at Elmer Brown's, and an Elmer Brown bred mare sired by Linsley, and out of a Elmer Brown bred mare of Old Midwest Family.
Abbington's dam was a Gov't Farm mare. The photo of her at the above link is not good at all.
