Damon Ashmore. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Feb 1984

Upper from TMH
Lower from the AllBreed site
Damon is considered to be 1/2 Lippitt as his sire was full Lippitt.
His dam was 50% Lippitt as both her parents were 1/2 Lippitts.
Then, tracing down the bottom mare line, there is Gladwin, who while not a Lippitt or a Lippitt Foundation horse, was of the same bloodlines as the Foundation horses.
DamonAshmore was only 1/8th Brunk, from that grand producing mare, Paragraph, who was dam of his maternal grand sire.
Damon's dam, Spring Darling, had many good foals with many breeding on. She had a full sister to Damon, Dolly Ashmore, who went to The Quietude Stud and had many good foals there. One of those was my own Clarion of Quietude. Clarion looked a lot like Damon, and I can see that same look in Morris Ashmore, son of Damon, pictured above. I have seen photos of Lippitt Ashmore and see the same look.
Damon had some get with some being used in breeding. I don't know if there are lines to today.

Wachuset Imperial. The Morgan Horse Magazine. Feb 1984

Most of his get carried the Imperial prefix of his owner.

Does he have any descendants today?

--Rosemont Royal Robin, produced for Bayrose Morgans.
--Rosemont Rebecca, produced for Sunrise Song Morgans (SSM prefix).

Jubilee Joy's dam was a full sister to Jubilee King. At the above link, there is much information and many photos of ancestors at the icons. Jubilee Joy had 11 foals with many of them having lines of descendant to today.
Mickey Finn had a great Brunk pedigree.
I wrote the following back in 2009.--
Mickey Finn, by King Mick 8508.
King Mick was by McAllister (Jubilee King x Mrs. Lewis)
Mrs. Lewis had a most interesting pedigree and was dam of many good ones. Her sire was Chas. Reade 3953, he by Woodworth's Ethan Allen 1573. Her dam was Bess Franklin.
King Mick was out of Jeanne, she by Knox Reade and out of Jean Ann who was by Sentiment sired by Major Reade. This gave King Mick 3 crosses to Chas. Reade.
Sadly, there is very little of this blood today.--

Mickey Finn sired 69 registered get. In Colorado he sired for Cambridge and Topside prefixes. Some of his get do have lines of descent to today.

Sun Rex Morgan. The Morgan Horse Magazine, 1951

Bred and owned by Joe Young, Georgia, his sire, Sun Down Morgan, was bred by that very early California breeder, Fred Fickert, If you click on the info icon by Sun Down Morgan's name at the above link, you will find a photo of Sun Down Morgan and some info on him. Sun Down was pure Sellman breeding.
The dam of Sun Rex, Carmel Snow, was bred by the LU Sheep Co, Wyoming. Click on her icon at the above link to see a photo and some info.
Sun Rex had only 4 registered get, 3 fillies and 1 colt. All carried the Pineland prefix of Joe Young. Two of those fillies, Pineland Carmel Candy and Pineland Charm, did breed on.

Gipsey-Allen The Morgan Horse Magazine, 1951

Upper from TMH
Lower from the AllBreed site.

I wrote the following back in 2009--
This horse was gelded, but he has an interesting pedigree.
His sire was Gypsey Prince 8319 by Gypsey King. King had many offspring in the Mid-Atlantic area. His sire was Kenney's Morgan 4982 by Knox Morgan. This was a different line to Knox then what usually comes down to today. Gypsey King was out of Gipsey Queen 0870 by Rocket 203, a grandson of Sherman Morgan.
Gypsey Prince's dam, Nunda, was by Scotland 6000 who was by General Gates and out of Highland Mary by Lambert Chief 1489. Scotland is not often found today.
The dam of Gipsey-Allen was Althea 04595 by Allen H by Ethan Allen 3rd and out of Black Bess by Governor Fisk by Flying Morril. Althea's dam Agatha was by Croydon Prince and out of Artemisia. This line to Artemisia was from her time before she went to the Government Farm.
Sadly, most of this above blood is gone. Back in the 1990's I would see an occasional pedigree with Gypsey Prince, but it was rare. In the middle of last century, there were still Morgans around with different and rare old lines. It is pretty much gone now.

Parade. The Morgan Horse Magazine. 1951

Upper from TMH, showing at the 1950 Morgan Nationals as a 2 year old.
Lower from the AllBreed site.
Parade was 1/2 Lippitt, as his sire, Cornwallis, was Lippitt.
His dam was that very good producing mare, Mansphyllis, herself from a long line of good producing mares.
Parade went on to sire 153 registered get. He toured with the Spanish Riding School of Vienna. He won many good show ring awards.

Junestar. The Morgan Horse Magazine, 1951

Junestar certainly had a royal pedigree. Her sire was Squire Burger, whose sire Juzan was by Jubilee King and out of Liza Jane. Squire Burger's dam was the great producing mare Nella who was out of Liza Jane, another great producing mare. Nella's sire was Allen King who was a full brother to Penrod, the sire of Jubilee King. This is a pedigree to study to see how Brunk mastered inbreeding ever so well.
Junestar's dam, Mansphyllis, brings in the Gov't Mansfield. Mansphyllis herself was a very good producing dam. Her dam was Paragraph, who was out of Nella and sired by Jubilee King. Junestar was the product of strong mare lines.
Junestar went on to produce some good breeding Morgans.

Upwey Horses. The Morgan Horse Magazine. 1951

She was by Up. King Benn and out of a Gov't/Old Vermont mare.
She had 10 foals with some breeding on.
He also was by Up. King Benn, and out of a mare bred by the Gov't Farm, but of the Old Vermont lines.
He sired 137 get and was vastly important.
from the AllBreed site--

Color: b

AMHA #8246

AMHA #8246. Dappled Bay, star, lh sock white. Foaled 5/15/1939, Middlebury, VT. Originally named Jefferson. Bred by USDA, VT. Registered Morgan progeny: 24 colts, 17 fillies (bay, brown, chestnut). Sire line does not trace back to Justin Morgan, rather to Messenger as his sire, though registered Morgan, was a Saddlebred with only remote Morgan crosses and 4% of Morgan blood. The Morgan influence of Upwey King Benn comes through his strongly bred dam.

Springbrook Sam. The Morgan Horse Magazine. 1951

{Note--this link takes you to the correct pedigree. Some careless person did a pedigree for him listing his dam as a 1982 Arabian. SIGH)
His sire was of the Old Midwest Family. His dam was Lippitt.
He looks to have been quite a versatile horse.

Shady Lawn's Mister. The Morgan Horse Magazine. 1951

Red photo from TMH
Lower from the AllBreed site
I remember reading one of the old Morgan Magazines; the article was a visit to Tompkins farm and an interview. The article quoted Tompkins as saying that he took Leader out for a trail ride nearly every evening, even after dark, for a good 5 mile or so ride.
Leader was a very good show horse and a prolific sire, having 139 registered get. He is found in pedigrees of today.

Ken Carmen. The Morgan Horse Magazine, early 1950's

His paternal grandsire and maternal grandsire were full brothers. Then look at the entire pedigree to see the level of close breeding. J C Brunk, his breeder, was a master at this.
Ken Carmen sired 54 registered get from his Illinois birthplace, to Utah, to Montana. He has descendants today.
(This entire issue was in this reddish color.)
