The photo below is from the AllBreed site.
This stallion was bred by the Herbert Bros. of Kansas, using Elmer Brown's (one of the founding fathers of the Western Working Family) stock. The dam was by Linsley, that excellent sire who sired so many very good breeding mares. Romanesque (Richard Sellman breeding), was a sire of note who crossed very well with the Linsley daughters. Plains King went from his birthplace, Kansas, to Wyoming where he stood at the LU Sheep Co. , then on to Michigan, where he sired many good ones, despite some people thinking him coarse. Others appreciated his strength and depth.
He sired 116 registered get.
Just a few of his get who can still be found on pedigrees of today include, Abbington of Shady Lawn, Cinnamon Lad, Lady Helen, Lupine, Luscious, Moraine, Mountain Queen, Plainsman, Targhee, Verran's Dixie Ann.
There were many others who may have lines to today and more who had lines of descent that went on for a while.
He was important in his time and is still important today.
