The Remount article talks only of Thoroughbreds, but the Remount also used Morgan stallions.
Gojea was an important mare in early California breeding.
Foaled in 1929, she was bred by J C Brunk. She was sired by Go Hawk, who was also the sire of Flyhawk.Her dam, Jeanne was also bred by Brunk and was a very good producer with many excellent horses to her credit. In 1934, Gojea was sold to Adolph Eddlemon of Acampo, CA In 1939, she was sold to R L Wellborn of Campo. CA. In 1942, Wellbron sold her to E W Roberts, Hi Pass, San Diego Co. CA.
Gojea has a total of nine foals of which seven had at least one foal of their own.
These include:
--Blackman, sired in 1942, died in 1965, this excellent stallion, bred by Roberts, had 129 registered get. His sons and daughters became very important in the California Morgan world and beyond.
--Gojean, foaled 1951, and bred by Roberts. She had produce for Mariner prefixed Morgans and some of them continued on with more Mariner prefix horses. Rogue Bay Gambit was one of her descendants and he sired Rogue Hills prefix Morgans and others.
--Gov. Pico, foaled 1943, bred by Roberts. He had only one registered get, the mare Morgan Gipsy. Gipsy was the dam of Waers Party Doll who had foals for Hotcreek Morgans coming down to Hotcreek Cavalier who has sired for Hotcreek and others.
--Jean Mary, foaled 1948, bred by Roberts. She had foals for the Ramona prefix, including Ramona Brave. Ramona Brave sired many good ones who have bred on, including Richwood Bravdo, who has sired for Hotcreek, Richwood, and others.
--Mae Livingston, foaled 1946, bred by Roberts. She was dam of Bea Nickerson, who was dam of Mr. America who sired for the R-J prefix, and Kelly's Morgans, and many others.
Gojea does come down to today.
