Cuyamo, a brown foaled Aug. 1, 1931, was bred by Duval Williams of Madera, Calif. Madera was in California's great Central Valley, renown for its agriculture and ranching. In other ads in WLJ, he was advertised as being available to be trucked to the mares. Although he had few registered get, he likely sired a lot of part Morgans, and some from Morgan mares that never were registered. Cuyamo had only 11 registered get of which 6 bred on to one extent or another.
His get include:
--Betty C out of Leora, bred by L W Rutledge, of Parlier, CA. She had 5 registered produce but none bred on.
--Bugle Anne, out of Joebie, bred by Duval Williams. She had 3 registered produce of which one bred on; this was Lady Bee who had 10 foals, notably for the Shawalla program. Coming down to today, she is behind Golden Sondanz, sire of Mocomo Gol-N-Diamond who has sired some for Wendy LeGate's OGO prefix. Lady Bee also came down thru Shawalla to Shawalla Scout W, sire for Noakes prefix. Lady Bee also comes down to Westwind Eyelash, dam of Westward Otto and others. MTR prefix Morgans also trace back to Lady Bee. There is also a line to Lady Bee from Golden Wintermist, dam of OGO Morgns, including OGO Shawalla Daisy Dawn, and others.
--Dulcet, out of Lady by Bender, 2nd dam a chestnut mare bred by J B Haggins of Kern Co. Calif. sired by a son of Bismarck (2 crosses to Black Hawk 20). The dam of the chestnut mare was out of a mare by St. Clair, (son of Barden #47) who was one of the very early Morgans brought to Calif. . Dulcet had 5 registered foals. Sunshine Revere and Sunshine Sue (has a line down into Indiana prefix Morgans, and into Rogue prefix Morgans.) bred on.
--Ginger Ale, out of Geena, and bred by Duval Williams. She had only one registered foal, a colt who had 2 registered get who did not breed on.
--Headlight Lady, out of Geena, and Bred by W T Carter of Sanger, CA. She had 15 registered foals. Only 4 of those had any registered progeny. There were some strong lines down into the 1970's, 1980', and even the 1990's, but they all seem to be gone now.
--Laydee, out of Lady by Bender with 2nd dam Chestnut mare bred by J B Haggins of Kern Co. CA. She had 9 registered produce with 4 breeding on. Sheik F's LadyBelle had some that bred onwards. Laydee was dam of Vanity Vermont and Vicki Vermont who had foals for Woodside Morgans, but those lines have been lost more recently. Laydee was dam of Sea Star who comes down to today in Veranda prefix Morgans and some others.
The mares he was bred to carried a rich California heritage of their own.
The progeny and descendants of Cuyamo were used in breeding for decades. It is a shame that so much has been lost. But there are still lines to today and it is hoped that those will go on.
His sire, Redwood Morgan, was bred by Richard Sellman, TX and sold to Roland Hill, CA. He was sired by that excellent sire, Headlight Morgan. His dam was was by Major Antoine and out of a Major Gordon daughter whose dam was also a Major Gordon daughter.
The dam of Cuyamo was Jocbo Brownie, bred by Roland Hill and sired by his good Brunk stallion, Pat Allen. The dam of Jocbo Brownie, Joeb, was by Joe Bailey, by Headlight Morgan and out of a mare by The Admiral. Joeb's dam was by Major Antoine.
This gave Cuyamo a pedigree of 3/4 Sellman and 1/4 Brunk. Note that Headlight Morgan was the Old Vermont High Percent blood. This High Percent blood is also behind the Brunk horses, found in the mares Daisy and Senata, and Black Bess behind her dam, the John Hoover Mare. Behind The Admiral, whom Sellman used, and behind the Brunks, can be found Jubilee de Jarnette.
