El Spartez. The Morgan Horse Magazine, April 1982

His sire, El Cortez, was registered as Hiebert's Challenge, and was bred by the Hiebert Bros. Kansas. The sire of El Cortez, Romanesque, was bred by Richard Sellman and stood in the US Remount Service at Elmer Brown's in Kansas. The dam of El Cortez, Viola Linsley, was bred by Elmer Brown, and was sired by the Gov't stallion, Linsley, who was also in the Remount Service at Brown's.
The dam of El Cortez, Princess Spar, was bred by Roland Hill, CA. Her sire, Sparbeau, was bred by Elmer Brown, and was by Linsley and out of Sparbelle, sired by the Old Midwest stallion, Sparhawk, and out of the Old Vermont High Percent mare, Donbelle. The dam of Princess Spar, Princess Sabab, was bred by the Hearst Ranch, CA. She was sired by the Arabian, Sabah, and was out of the Roland Hill bred mare, Princess Allan, whose dam was bred by Sellman.
Thus, El Spartez had a royal Western Working Family pedigree.
He sired some that bred on, including:
--Dahlonega Belyn, dam.
--Spartana, dam.
--Vining Lamar, sire of some who have come to today, including: Fancy All the Way; OGO Circle H Romanesque; OGO Primavera Red Oak; Sqeeky Clean; TK Halfmoon; TK Whiskey Kitten.
